Introduction For Multi-channel software

For active brands and sellers on multiple marketplaces, selecting a multi-channel software provider can be a critical factor for success. If you select the wrong multi-channel software provider, you can experience issues with inventory, order, and product listing synchronization across your sales channels.

If you select the right multi-channel software provider, you can get all the benefits of having a single management console and not be required to jump into the various seller center interfaces to calculate inventory, process orders, and manage your product listings.

SE Asia is still a relatively immature market with 15+ active multi-channel software providers aggressively marketing to SE Asia’s brands and sellers. I estimate there are another 5-10 proprietary multi-channel software solutions that are built and used by the enablers/agencies in SE Asia.

With so many providers, it can be quite a challenge to select a multi-channel software provider. For this reason, I wanted to conduct research into all the current providers in SE Asia and assess their capabilities.

I hope that this research article will help you choose a multi-channel software provider and help your business become more efficient and grow sales revenue.

Methodology

In this evaluation, we will be scoring six (6) shortlisted multi-channel software providers in SE Asia across eight primary factors. For a description of the evaluation criteria we will use in this research project, please see below:

ID Evaluation Criteria Description
1 Listing & Pricing Management Feature scope and feature quality related to product listing management across multiple online sales channels (brand.com, marketplace, social commerce).
2 Inventory Management Feature scope and feature quality related to inventory and stock management across multiple online sales channels (brand.com, marketplace, social commerce).
3 Order Management Feature scope and feature quality related to creating, viewing, and processing orders across multiple online sales channels (brand.com, marketplace, social commerce).
4 Financial Management Feature scope and feature quality related to financial management (ie – financial reconciliation, account statements consolidation).
5 Data & Insights Feature scope and feature quality related to data, insights, and valuable business information provided to brands/sellers.
6 Data Privacy & Conflicts of Interest Assessment of vendor other business operations and risk of seller/brand data mismanagement (ie – is the provider also a seller? Are there any claims of the vendor using the data to impact their enabler/agency services?)
7 API Integrations Number and quality of marketplaces, brand.com, and social commerce channels supported
8 Pricing The overall cost of a subscription (ie – is it expensive or affordable)?
9 Overall Score The overall score as determined by all factors above

Listing and Pricing Management Score

This multi-channel software set covers all the must-have scope that brands and sellers in SE Asia need. Both single and bulk product listing and pricing updates are supported. With just a few clicks, you can migrate listing data from one marketplace to the next.

One nice feature that isn’t so common is SELLinAll’s support of HTML custom templates for product descriptions across multiple marketplaces. This is valuable for the more sophisticated sellers that want more than text in their product descriptions.

SELLinAll does offer a pretty cool pricing automation feature that allows users to set automated repricing rules for certain SKUs. This is always a risky endeavor for sellers and brands but for those brave brands/sellers that want to automate repricing – SELLinAll offers a clean solution for you.

Score: A+

Inventory Management Score

Once the integration is set up in SELLinALL, inventory is automatically synced and tracked across multiple sales channels. Sellers/brands can view inventory values at an individual sales channel level and across all sales channels.

Score: A

Order Management Score

SELLinALL consolidates orders from all your online eCommerce channels in a single platform allowing you to view all orders from different marketplaces in a single user interface.

From capturing a new order to printing invoices and shipping labels – all must-have use cases are supported by SELLinALL.

SELLinAll also offers package tracking for the limited number of logistics integrations they currently support – something that will help customers check on and troubleshoot delivery status from a central UI.

The only downside to note for SELLinAll is their limited number of integrations with logistics providers. They currently only support Ninjavan, Janio, and SATSACO for SE Asian sellers. Their primary focus with integrations appears to be with Singapore and Indonesian sellers so this might work if you are a seller in Singapore or Indonesia, but it likely does not give the integrations you need if you’re selling across all of SE Asia or in only Vietnam, Malaysia, Philippines, or Thailand.

Score: C+

Financial Management Score

SELLinAll offers reconciliation tooling to allow brands and sellers to easily view the total settlement amount received from each marketplace and the total marketplace charges debited against your account. By using this feature, sellers can save a lot of time on manual reconciliation and reviewing excel sheets.

SELLinAll gets bonus points from my point-of-view because of their integrations with the globe’s most popular accounting and financial management software providers – Intuit, Xero, and Odoo.

Score: A+

Data & Insights Score

SELLinAll offers a few features related to data and insights that can help sellers and brands grow with data. They offer summary reporting for best selling products, best selling categories, orders, and allow sellers to export order and inventory reports for a single marketplace or across all marketplaces.

Overall, SELLinAll’s feature set covers the most common requirements from brands/sellers but I think there is definitely room for improvement on the quality of reporting available for sellers. They have all the necessary data and engineering capacity to extend this functionality so I wouldn’t be surprised to see more data and insights features shortly.

Score: B-

Data Privacy & Conflict of Interests

From looking at SELLinAll’s current monetization strategy, there appears to be no significant concern with the use of seller account data.

SELLinAll does offer selling services but there is no evidence they are selling themselves or incentivized in any way to make use of independent subscriber data to grow their own sales.

The services offered are focused on helping brands and sellers grow their revenue (which, in turn, results in increased revenue for SELLinAll as their pricing model is based on % of revenues). So it appears to be a true win-win in terms of incentives alignment.

Score: A

API Integrations Score

By looking at all the integrations, you can see that SELLinAll does well with these evaluation criteria. Their site mentions more integrations coming soon in SE Asia and given the size of their team and experience, I think it’s quite safe to assume that they will get better and better in the coming quarters.

Score: A

Pricing:

SELLinAll offers 3 pricing tiers:

1) Basic – The basic plan is free but limits the number of SKUs, features, and channel integrations allowed.

2) Premium – If you sign up for the premium plan, SELLinALL gives access to most features and all channel integrations for 5-7% of sales revenue

3) Extended – The extended plan gives additional services like customer service and logistics services to brands and sellers at a hefty cost of 20% (or more)

Overall, their pricing model is quite compelling for small sellers that are just getting started but once you start to scale, the costs become a bit prohibitive.

2. CombineSell

Comparing Multi-Channel Software Providers for Lazada and Shopee Sellers

Founded in 2017, CombineSell’s stated mission is to allow any business owner to unlock the full potential of their online business by tapping into multichannel e-commerce. They simplify multichannel e-commerce selling processes by aggregating popular online marketplaces into just a single platform.

Combinesell offers all the core features to be expected in a multi-channel software – order capturing and order processing.

Score: B+

Financial Management Score

Combinesell currently offers integrations with Xero for your accounting and bookkeeping. Aside from that, no other platforms are supported and there are no specific reports or features related to the financial aspects of a seller business like financial reconciliation or profit tracking.

Score: C

Combinesell hasn’t invested much in reporting and data insights. The only reporting appears to be at the order and product level.

Data Privacy & Notable Conflict of Interests

Combinesell offers managed services to its clients

Combinesell was acquired by Shopmatic which recently acquired investment from Matchmaker.

Both Combinesell and Shopmatic do not appear to be selling themselves or monetizing via commission from brand clients so there appears to be no conflict of interest here.

Score: A

API Integrations Score

Combinesell is clearly focused on Singapore and Malaysia markets so the integrations are very limited for sellers seeking to sell across all SE Asian markets.

If you are a seller in Singapore or Malaysia, you might be satisfied with the current integrations but I think there is certainly room for improvement in terms of logistics and finance integrations.

Score: D

Pricing Score

Combinesell offers two pricing options:

1) Starter – $30 SGD / month (max 3 integrations, 1 user)
2) Professional – $100 SGD / month (unlimited integrations)

Score: A-

Overall Score

Combinesell’s multi-channel software is ideal for sellers in Singapore and Malaysia with most must-have integrations already being supported. If you’re in Thailand, Vietnam, or Indonesia – you will likely want to explore other providers.

The feature set – from inventory and listing management to order management does all the standard scope that you would expect. It would be nice to see some additional features related to financial management and integration with other accounting/bookkeeping providers.

3. Synagie

Comparing Multi-Channel Software Providers for Lazada and Shopee Sellers

Synagie is an impressive multi-channel software with several features and solutions not available elsewhere such as customer management features (ie – basic CRM features) and warehousing/fulfillment.

They were honored as the fastest-growing company in Singapore in a recent article by the Straits Times with a compounded annual growth rate of 339% since 2015.

I’m not sure how focused they are in their SME market though as I was met with a defect blocking me from setting up a free trial immediately.

Listing and Pricing Management Score

Synagie checks all the boxes for the core features of a multi-channel software – they allow brands to manage their listings and pricing from a single interface.

Score: A

Inventory Management Score

Synagie gives all the must-haves for sellers –  the ability to manage inventory at specific channels and across all channels.

Synagie excels in the area of big operations. They offer vendor management with processes such as purchase order issuance.

If you are a Singapore seller and wanting to use a 3rd party warehouse – it’s hard to put any single negative argument against Synagie. Their combination of inventory management features and integrated 3rd party warehousing solution (create inbound/outbound orders) is quite impressive.

Score: A+

Order Management Score

Synagie gives sellers the ability to process orders across all sales channels in a single interface. Nothing to fancy here but it’s not necessary – reliability and quality are most important and from social reviews, there appear to be no major issues with Synagie order processing operations.

One thing to note is that Synagie also allows users to manually create both orders and return orders from their platform.
If you are selling elsewhere, they offer the ability to mass import outside channel sales into the system easily so you can track all orders (regardless of whether they lack the API integration now).

Score: A

Financial Management Score

Synagie is integrated with the 2 big bookkeeping providers – Intuit Quickbooks and Xero. Once you log-in, the primary dashboard attempts to communicate your store’s net profit (sales revenue across all channels less selling costs).

This is pretty powerful for brands and sellers that are comfortable disclosing their profit data with their software vendor.

Score: A

Data & Insights Score

Synagie is definitely a leader in terms of the data and insights they give users. They offer the below relatively unique features to subscribers:

– Geographical analysis
– Path analysis
– Profit Analysis
– Channel Analysis

They also share the top-selling products, average order value, revenue by product (for top 5 products), and give low stock alerts.

Synagie definitely appears to be moving towards offering a full-service solution for sellers that want to sell using a multi-channel software.

Score: A

Data Privacy & Conflict of Interests

Synagie does offer end-to-end brand management solutions which can be a potential source of concern. There are numerous mentionings of big data value across the marketing materials which gives potential concern about how SME sales and order data are used.

Simply looking at the testimonials and references on their site, Synagie appears to be focused on brand clients and functioning as an end-to-end solution provider for large brands.

Score: B+

API Integrations Score

If you’re in Singapore or Malaysia, it’s hard to complain about the integrations offered. I do think that their strength drops off in other markets like Indonesia and Vietnam that lack critical integrations with Tiki.vn and Tokopedia and Bukalapak.

Score: B+

Pricing Score

Synagie offers a pay-as-you-go plan with pricing based on several orders processed.

If you process 100 orders per month, you can expect to pay just $40/month. If you process 1,000 orders per month, you can expect to pay $300/month.

Score: A-

Overall Score

Synagie is a great company and it’s clear looking at their platform why they’ve had such incredible growth rates the past few years.

If you are a Singapore or Malaysian seller – it’s hard to argue against going with Synagie.

But if you’re selling in other SE Asian markets, you’ll likely be a bit disappointed.

With integrations with most relevant logistics and last-mile providers, there is great customization potential with Selluseller.

The issue appears to be with quality. There are numerous online reviews in social media about order processing and inventory management quality issues – resulting in overstock and order SLA issues.

Now the root cause of this tends to be with the marketplaces and data sources but I think we can also attribute a bit of the quality issues to the sheer scale of the platform that Anchanto is building with Selluseller.

Pricing Score

Anchanto isn’t very clear about their pricing at first. They require you to speak with a representative to get a custom quotation. Yes, it’s a bit annoying but since there are so many integrations and features supported by Selluseller – it’s hard to argue with the benefit.

Most plans range between $50 and $1000 per month depending on the integrations, features, and # of users. It is not the cheapest platform and likely not ideal for very small and new sellers. Their target market tends to be with bigger sellers and brands.

This enabler offers the most integrations and a dizzying array of features for SMEs and big brands. There has been a bit of negative reputation with this platform in the SE Asia seller communities due to past issues with system quality and defects but it’s difficult to hold that against them.

From my perspective, this platform is quite simply the most sophisticated multi-channel management software in SE Asia. Most of the marketplaces they are integrating with are not very sophisticated and a big source of the issues their sellers experience.

As soon as you connect your Lazada or Shopee account to xCommerce, your product listings will be synced to the platform. You cannot create product listings on the platform. They offer integrations to the major brand.com stores in addition to the leading marketplaces in Thailand.

Score: B

Inventory Management Score

Each in and out movement of your inventory is recorded which allows you to systematically and accurately monitor your stocks.

xCommerce supports the classification of simple, variation, and bundle products. Since this platform can sync with varieties of eCommerce markets, you can monitor all these products under a single platform.

The inventory management system updates in real-time and thus you will be made aware if there are products that need re-stocking.

The limitations of xCommerce relate to their inability to integrate with prominent warehousing solution providers in the Thailand market and also allow users to manually override stock from a single UI (and have it reflected across various marketplaces).

Score: B+

Order Management Score

xCommerce traces your orders from all the eCommerce seller accounts you are connected to so you can monitor and track product orders on one screen.

The platform also fills you in on the classification of the orders whether or not they are already paid and being shipped to the customer or if it is still being processed in the warehouse.

It has different modes of delivery and automatically calculates the shipping cost for the product. On top of that, the tracking number is also synched from the shipping carrier.

Browsing through various forums and seller groups, we weren’t able to find any complaints about their order management synchronization which is quite impressive.

Score: A-

Financial Management Score

xCommerce lacks a bit here as they do not offer out-of-the-box integrations with most major account and financial systems.

I suspect they could do this for a custom software project but best to ask them directly!

Score: C

Data & Insights Score

xCommerce can provide you with the following:

  • Inventory summary
  • Customer summary
  • Delivery summary
  • Sales summary
  • Transaction summary
  • User summary

The inventory data lets you know how much stocks you currently have in the warehouse and thus giving you a heads up as to the sufficient or insufficient supplies you could potentially have in terms of your product orders.

As for the summary of your customers, this will allow you to study and analyze the behaviors of your buyers so that you can maintain and enhance the sales/marketing strategies that work best for your business.

You will also be able to view your total and daily sales in real-time. Hence, business overview becomes a much simpler task. Aside from the numeric sales, you will also receive data regarding your best-selling products as well which staff members were able to contribute to the given sales.

A report will also be prepared as to all the completed transactions. This report will entail from which marketplace the payments came from.

Lastly, you will get a summary of all the deliveries including the date of delivery as well as the tracking numbers.

Score: B+

Data Privacy & Conflict of Interests

xCommerce has strict data privacy that prohibits them from sharing or divulging any of the confidential and business-related information that you will be providing them. Hence, there is a low risk of data violation if you plan to partner with their service.

Score: A

API Integrations Score

xCommerce offers all the expected integrations for marketplaces and brand.com ecommerce platforms.

They advertise heavily their features that allow you to integrate marketplace seller data with your core CRM which is against the terms of service of Lazada and Shopee so please be careful here. You should always follow the terms of service for the marketplace your selling in or face the risk of having your seller account banned.

There are no clear references showing CRM integrations in their marketing collaterals so I suspect it’s a bit of a manual process to move the data to your CRM.

Score: B+

Overall Score

xCommerce is a great company in Thailand that is growing quickly. It would be interesting to see them expand their integrations and offer more of a centralized console for stock and pricing management in the future.

Until then, compared to their competitors in SE Asia, we will have to politely give them a B.

The marketplace sync features of Sitegian enable sellers to write their product listings on the Sitegiant platform once and synch to all major Malaysia sales channels and a few international channels.

Due to this synchronization, if you change the details or price of your products, it will automatically reflect on the marketplaces that you are using. On top of that, this platform also enables you to set different prices for a single product per marketplace.

As their listings integrate with Malaysia marketplaces and not other major markets (Thailand, Vietnam), they do leave a bit of demand on the table in the rest of SE Asia.

 Summary

As far as expanding your Shopee or Lazada business goes, it is important to look for appropriate software that is in line with your online shop’s goals and objectives as a business.

The right multi-channel software depends on the unique circumstances of your business.

Some questions you should ask:

  1. Which marketplaces and sales channels must I integrate with?
  2. Do I need financial integrations?
  3. Which analytics and reporting features are critical to me?
  4. Does the vendor have a strong presence in my market?
  5. Checking and searching seller groups, is there any common synchronization issues (ie inventory, orders)?
  6. Is there any potential conflict of interest associated with the vendor’s business model and investors?

Hopefully, we were able to articulate the main benefits of these multichannel software providers but please do your own research! Look at the pros and cons, compare, and see which one matches best with your business.

Which one of these multichannel software providers caught your eye the most? We would be glad to know about it in the comment section.

And, lastly, things are changing so fast in SE Asia. These providers are releasing new features and new software providers are appearing each month. Don’t hesitate to correct us or let us know in the comments section.
